Capt. Alex Benson has been finding some way to wet a fishing line for his entire life. Growing up in the foothills of North Carolina, he began freshwater fishing in rivers and ponds for bass and catfish. After graduating from West Forsyth High School in 2012, he moved to Wilmington, NC to attend UNCW, where it is debatable if study time was spent more on his education or saltwater fishing practices. He worked at area tackle shops through college, worked as a traveling sales representative in the fishing industry after graduation, and then transitioned into retail management as a Fishing Department Manager. He attended captain school at Cape Fear Community College in 2017, and was soon to leave retail to pursue a job that gave him more time on the water. The summer of 2018, Capt. Alex spent over 150 days offshore working as a first mate on a 40 ft sportfisher out of Wrightsville Beach where he found his true passion for helping people catch either their first fish or their 1,000th.

Now, Capt. Alex is the owner and operator of Golden Hour Guide Service, Inc. Give him a call to see what a true passion for saltwater fishing is, and come see what it’s all about!
